Walking by Love

Once known for her graceful stride
The set of her shoulders
The swing of svelte hips

Reveling in the eyes that secretly undress
Eyebrow arching at the carelessly tossed appreciation
Delight taken in mouths agape

Moving along, time to precious to waste
On men with little taste
Nose rising in the air

The switch of her walk mesmerizing those left behind
A half interest look at nails set atop a pianist’s hand
A talent never developed or realized

Vanity steps in forcing hands to press out imaginary wrinkles
Mussing in hair that falls as it pleases
A smile never graces sanguine lips set in a proud line

The years pass by
The cat calls are fewer
The vanity though, remains even after beauty fades

Shamefully it dawns upon her
A man, a lover will never know her name
Slipping between satin sheets

Feet cold, no warm body to generate heat
There is trouble now-a-days to find peace through sleep
But hope and wish meet each night

Giving faith that tomorrow’s catcalls
Will lead to the Fairy tale life
The one each small girl secretly longs for.
